Kiss Of The Vampire.

Kiss Of The Vampire.

What genre is this media product?
The kiss of the vampire is a horror film which was created in 1962. the film was made by Hammer Film Productions

Outline the generic paradigmatic and iconographic features that construct this genre.
The main generic paradigmatic feature that can be found in kiss of the vampire is the monster itself. all horror films will have a scary monster for the audience to be afraid of.

The iconographic feature of this movie poster is the representation of the vampires. the vampires have been shown killing two people and sucking their blood. This tells the viewer exactly what the film is going to be about because they recognise the stereotypes of a vampire.

In what way does this product conform and subvert to genre conventions?
The poster conforms to the stereotypes of a vampire film because the producer has clearly displayed the two vampires killing people and drinking their blood. As well as this, the background of the poster is full of bats and we can see that the vampires have pointed teeth.

One way that the movie poster subverts to gender conventions is that the female vampire has been designed to look powerful. This is also shown with the image of her killing a man who is expected to be stronger than a woman.

What semiotic codes can we identify?
The poster uses the symbolism of blood and death to give the viewer a sense of fear when they look at the product. The murder of the two people by the vampires has been used to foreshadow what will happen in the film. This makes people want to know more such as why the vampires killed these two people over everyone else.
