Beyonce Formation.
Representation is the use of signs that stand in for and take the place of something else. It is through representation that people organize the world and reality through the act of naming its elements. Signs are arranged in order to form semantic constructions and express relations.

The first shot we see in the music video is Beyonce standing on top of a police car to show her rebellion against the police's treatment of black people.
As well as this, we see the effects of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans in 2005. The storm killed hundreds and left thousands homeless and without food or clean water for days. This is Beyone's way of showing that it was one of the biggest failures in US domestic policy of a generation.
Finally, towards the end of the music video, we see a young boy dressed in all black dancing in front of a line of police officers in riot gear. He suddenly stops and lifts his hands while the officers respond with with the same action. After this, the camera cuts to a wall that shows the words "stop shooting us" spray-painted on the wall. This scene is a tacit statement on police brutality and use of force— which has been a leading topic of discussion in the US for the past several years as black men, women, and children have been killed by the police in controversial circumstances.
