The cultural industry- The idea that the radical potential of the internet has been contained to some extent by its partial incorporation into a large, profit-orientated set of cultural industries.
Horizontal Integration- Horizontal integration is the process of a company increasing production of goods or services at the same part of the supply chain. A company may do this via internal expansion, acquisition or merger. The process can lead to monopoly if a company captures the vast majority of the market for that product or service.
Vertical Integration- The combination in one firm of two or more stages of production normally operated by separate firms.
Conglomeration- The formation of a large company by the merging of separate and diverse small firms. Media conglomerate is a large company or corporation formed by merging of different small media outlets such as TV, radio, newspapers, and internet.
A conglomeration limits the media industry to a strict format for their media products and as a result tend to repeat a similar story line and development of characters because they are unable to take big risks when it comes to their products so as not to lose profit or audience viewings.
With the slogan of Canal+ stating Créateur et original depuis 1984. (Creator and original since 1984) it's fair to say that they believe in creating original media productions for their audience.
