The women who have bene represented in this music video are mostly African-American women with curvey bodies. Beyonce Formation.

Beyonce Formation. Representation is the use of signs that stand in for and take the place of something else. It is through representation that people organize the world and reality through the act of naming its elements. Signs are arranged in order to form semantic constructions and express relations. Artist:  Beyoncé Album:  Lemonade Released:  2016 Genre:  Bounce music Nominations:  Grammy Award for Song of the Year Awards:  Grammy Award for Best Music Video In what ways are the themes in conflict (binary opposites) encoded in this video? The first shot we see in the music video is Beyonce standing on top of a police car to show her rebellion against the police's treatment of black people. As well as this, we see the effects of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans in 2005. The storm killed hundreds and left thousands homeless and without food or clean water for days. This is Beyone's way of showing that it was one of the biggest fail

Process Convergence

Process Convergence Process Convergence- The coming together of two previously different media industries. Where the interconnectedness of media products leads to a result of more of the sum of it's parts. (E.G. merchandise tie-ins, TV shows) The benefit of this synergistic convergence between music and film is that two distinct audiences can be simultaneously targeted, making more money for the production company. Binary opposites-   Binary opposition  is the system by which language and thought, two theoretical  opposites  are strictly defined and set off against one another. According to  Ferdinand de Saussure , the binary opposition is the means by which the units of language have value or meaning; each unit is defined in reciprocal determination with another term, as in binary code. It is not a contradictory relation but a structural, complementary one.  Saussure demonstrated that a sign's meaning is derived from its context (syntagmatic dimension) and th

key assessment three

When researching both Woman magazine and Adbuters, I found that they are both at very different ends of the spectrum in terms of the content in the products. While Woman magazine is very stereotypical and uses lots of advertising, Adbusters has been more unconventional and not included any advertising unless it is culture jamming.  The first thing I noticed when looking at these magazines was that Adbusters were a harshly left-wing magazine and produced very anti-capitalist articles throughout their product. one way in which they have proven their hatred towards capitalism is the "buy nothing day" movement. the movement was started in Canada in September of 1992 and has grown ever since. The day was made to stop people buying things for just one day as a way for society to examine the issue of overconsumption. the movement is currently thought to have 1 million participants across 65 countries and is quickly growing in popularity. The magazine's way of thinking i

Transphobic article.

The definition of being transgender is " denoting or relating to a person whose sense of personal identity and gender does not correspond with their birth sex." Which, simply put, means a person can be born as a man while wanting to be a woman, and a person can be born a woman while wanting to be a man.  Now that you have been given this quiet simple piece of information, I feel that this acticle was needed to shed light on the lives of trans people and the struggles  they go through.   Since Donald Trump's election, his administration has been trying to define transgender people out of existence. The US government is seeking to deny trans people of their most basic rights in an attempt to reduce their remove their recognition. Last month, the New York Times quoted the US government as saying "gender is determined by the genitals that a person is born with". Before everyone goes on a Trump fuelled hate rant, just across the Atlantic ocean, our prolific
